Merihan Eissa, MSc
Merihan earned her master's in counseling psychology from the American University in Cairo. Prior to that, she also completed a diploma in applied behaviour analysis. She has been practicing psychotherapy at private practice clinics, the AUC's Psychological Counseling Services and Training Center, and the AUC's center for student wellbeing. In these settings, she supported adults and adolescents dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, interpersonal challenges, difficulties with adjustment and transitions, and personality disorders. She also trained at El Rakhawy Hospital for mental health and addiction treatment. Merihan conducted psychoeducational workshops on various topics and she works as a research assistant at the AUC's attachment lab where she contributes to research on attachment. She is also a member of the Psi Chi international honor society. Merihan adopts an integrative approach to therapy, believing that it cannot be a "one size fits all" and that each client requires a unique and tailored approach. She primarily utilizes person-centered and interpersonal approaches, incorporating emotionally focused therapy, internal family systems, and schema therapy. She believes that the therapy room is a safe, accepting, and non-judgmental space where clients can freely express themselves and explore their struggles. She views therapy as a collaborative journey that both the client and the therapist embark on with the aim of achieving new heights of self-awareness, insight, personal growth, and healing.
